We have prepared a workshop on collodion negatives and albumen prints given by Joaquín Paredes from our studio in Cáceres.
The albumen printing process was invented in 1850 by Louis Désiré Blanquart-Evrard and was the most popular photographic process during the second half of the 19th century. It is a process that produces beautiful copies with a characteristic gloss that made them prevail over matte copies such as salted paper. In combination with collodion negatives, they led to the first great "democratization" of photography. Making it accessible to a much larger audience.

We have prepared a daguerreotype workshop given by Joaquín Paredes in our studio in Cáceres.
It is a workshop in which we will learn everything necessary for the elaboration of accelerated daguerreotype plates (sensitized with iodine and bromine) revealed by means of mercury vapours.
We will start from scratch: We will leark how to polish and prepare the copper and brass plates. How to silver-plate our own plates. We will sensitize, develop, fix and guild the daguerrotypes. And we will finally learn howo to case and preserve the plates.
You have all the information on the workshop at: Daguerreotype workshop

This is a workshop that we are especially excited to give. A workshop that we have been trying to do for a long time and that due to time and these almost two years of pandemic we have not been able to plan. Joaquín Paredes The workshop will take a look at the most important contemporary authors who work with historical processes and, above all, we will take a look at the projects that most help us to understand how and why to use these processes in our work.
We will take a journey through the history of photography through its processes and we will link them with contemporary works that use the same techniques, but in a completely different way and with a completely different objective.
Finally, we will do a portfolio review for those students who wish to show their work. It is not essential to show work in the portfolio review in order to attend the workshop. Nor is it necessary for the portfolio to be analogue or chemical in order to do the review.
Among other authors, we will see the work of Alison Rossiter, Chris McCaw, Takashi Arai, Sally Mann...
