The Gelatino-bromide Dry Plates workshop (5-6 March 2022) will be given by Joaquín Paredes in our studio in Cáceres.

You can reserve your place in the following link: Gelatine-bromide dry plate workshop

You also have the possibility to book the workshop together with the accommodation in the following apartments "Torre de la Yerba" (300m from the Plaza Mayor) (300m from the Plaza Mayor) (Only 3 places): Dry plate workshop + accommodation 3 nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

Gelatin-Bromide is a photographic process created in 1871 by Richard Leach Maddox and improved in 1873 by J. Johnson who introduced the washing of the emulsion and later by the work of Charles Harper Bennett who perfected heat maturation to increase sensitivity. By the late 1970s and early 1980s, dry gelatine plate had almost completely displaced wet collodion, thus solving most of the disadvantages of this process.

It is a two-day workshop in which we will learn how to make gelatin-bromide plates. We will prepare the glass, the emulsion, the curing of the plates, developing, etc.

The workshop is two full days (Saturday and Sunday): 10:00-14:00h and 16:00-20:00 and we will deal with topics such as

  • History of the process
  • Preparation and characteristics of gelatino-bromide emulsions
  • Washing
  • Maturation
  • Developing the negatives
  • We will make some copies of the plates on baryta paper.
