The workshop on dry gelatin-bromide plates (September 26 and 27, 2026) will be taught by Joaquín Paredes at our studio in Cáceres.

Gelatin bromideis a photographic process created in 1871 byRichard Leach Maddoxand improved in 1873 by J. Johnson, who introduced emulsion washing, and later byCharles Harper Bennett, who perfected heat maturation to increase sensitivity. By the late 1970s and early 1980s, dry gelatin plates had almost completely replaced wet collodion, solving most of the drawbacks of that process.

It is a two-day workshop in which we will learn how to make gelatin-bromide plates. We will prepare the glass, the emulsion, the curing of the plates, developing, etc.

The workshop is two full days (Saturday and Sunday): 10:00-14:00h and 16:00-20:00 and we will deal with topics such as
- History of the process
- Preparation and characteristics of gelatino-bromide emulsions
- Washing
- Maturation
- Developing the negatives
- We will make some copies of the plates on baryta paper.
