Advanced Wet Collodion Workshop (February 17 and 18) given by Joaquin Paredes.
The advanced wet plate collodion workshop is designed for students who already work with this process. It is not an introduction workshop and although, there will be an exhaustive review of certain concepts, such as the function of the chemicals, the main goal of this workshop is to focus on solving the problems the students may have. We will also try to focus on the creative use of the aesthetics and particularities of this technique.
You can reserve your place here: Advanced Wet Collodion Workshop
You also have the possibility to book the workshop together with the accommodation in the following apartments "Torre de la Yerba" (300m from the Plaza Mayor) (300m from the Plaza Mayor) (Only 3 places): Advanced wet collodion workshop + accommodation for 3 nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
This is a two days and 16 hours workshop: from 10:00-14:00 and 16:00-20:00.
The students (6 maximum) work in pairs, each group with a complete laboratory set (chemicals + trays + camera).
- The first morning, we will be making the chemistry that we need for the workshop. We will try different developers, farmers reducer... We will also review the function of every chemical involved in the process. This way we can understand how and when we need to change our formulas depending on the results we want to obtain. We will also review the plates brought by the students and try to solve the problems they have.
- During the afternoon and the next morning, we will be doing some demonstrations of how to solve some common mistakes and how to take advantage of the aesthetics of the process.
- During the last afternoon, we will make some 8×10″ (20x25cm) plates and use some new techniques that we have learned during the workshop.
We'll deal with topics like:
- Problem solving
- Relationship between exposure, development and contrast
- Intervention of the photographs
- Tinting and burnishing.
- Developers: tones, temperature, fogging, contrast...
- Different plate materials and possibilities: glass, mirror, plexiglass, opal glass, rocks...
- Varnishes and mounting options...
- and much more!!!
