1l liter of wet plate developer: Ferrous sulfate, nitric acid and potassium nitrate. This developer wil produce images with a more controlled contrast and cooler, more metallic tones. It is recommended to add a few drops of the silver nitrate bath to the developer just before pouring it on to the plate if we want to increase the metallic effect of the developer
Our developers are mixed when we receive an order. The use of fresh developers is highly recommended.
480ml of collodion. All of our collodion formulas are supplied inside wide-mouth borosilicate bottles to allow an easier pour and avoid the aging of the collodion as long as possible.
The Quick Clear formula contains 2 salts: ammonium iodide and cadmium bromide. It has a great tonal range, similar to the Old Workhorse, but it’s one stop slower than Lea #7 and It also has a shorter shelf life.
This formula is completely clear when mixed. It could be used next day, even hours after mixing it, although we recommend letting it ripen for a week.
1 liter of wet plate developer (Ferrous sulfate). This is a highly active developer which will give you contrasty and warmer tone images.
Our developers are mixed when we receive an order. The use of fresh developers is highly recommended.
250ml of sandarac varnish. Sandarac is the most commonly used varnish for wet plate nowadays. This is the classical gum sandarac formula.
The use of alcohol based varnishes is suitable for freshly made collodion. If your plate has been shot with an old collodion we recommend you to choose an acrylic varnish to prevent dissolving the image. You could also seal your plate with a glass dome and Canada Balsam.
Our varnishes are sold in borosilicate glass bottles, which are easy to clean and more resistant than regular glass to impact and temperature changes.
If you have trouble with this varnish dissolving your images, adding a few ml of distilled water to the varnish could solve this problem.
