We can already announce the new wet collodion workshop that Joaquin Paredes will teach at the School of Art of Huesca on April 27, 28, 29 and 30.
It's a workshop, which thanks to the organization of it together with the School of Art and has a very economic price, so take advantage that there are only 10 places!
You can book your place through our website: Introduction to wet plate collodion workshop
This workshop will take place in four afternoons from 15:30 to 19:30. It is an immersion in the process in which all the necessary knowledge will be imparted in order to start in the wet collodion with enough security and ability so that the student can develop in an autonomous way after the course.
We never do one-day collodion workshops, there is no time to cover a minimum knowledge to get started in a process like this, or at least, that is our philosophy. To attend the workshop you do not need any previous knowledge of laboratory or large format cameras: it is always a help if the student is used to handle large format cameras, but in the course you will start from scratch.
The students (6 max) will work in pairs and they will have a complete laboratory set available for each group.
- The first afternoon will be dedicated exclusively to learning what is necessary to work safely, to know what the function of each of the chemicals is and to prepare the mixtures that we will use during the workshop. If there is time, we will make the first demonstration of the process.
- On the second and third day, if we have not concluded with the explanation and elaboration of the chemicals, it will be finished first thing in the morning. Then, we will start with the practices, doubts will be solved and mistakes will be corrected as we make plates. Normally, throughout the workshop, each student makes four or five 4×5″ plates on glass and on aluminium and one 8×10″ (20x25cm) that they will take home.
- During the last afternoon, we will be making the last plates and we will try that everyone makes the same amount of plates. We will solve the last doubts and you will see how a 11×14″ (28x36cm) portrait is made which we will draw among the students.
